It would appear that sometime in the mid-1960s whomever was responsible for commissioning official Olympic artwork decided to shift the contract from the very talented artists that had been handling it for the previous six-or-so decades to some half-baked art students. At least, that’s my traditionalist take on it.

No matter, it is fascinating to see the different posters over the years. A very interesting post.

Not to take anything away from London, but there have been 30 Olympic Summer Games, and this is the 3rd time they have been to London. I know it is the first time in like 60 years, but still seems like a lot.

What a wonderful post! I had forgotten how much fun looking at poster art was. This makes me wonder what the entire planet seemed to be on during the 60′s. That period of time does stand out from all the other’s artistically.
